Little bit of design

20 May

One of the projects I’m doing at the moment is a Anne Boleyn/Elizabeth I costume. Two of my favourite historical women, I could hardly say no.

As with most of my other projects there is a twist (I just can’t do anything normal!). We’re working on a budget so we’re trying to do a lot of reusing pieces etc.

Anne:

I was trying to keep Anne kind of simple while maintain her royal status, so while she is essentially quite plain, she has lots of layers and textures etc. The underskirt is a curtain I found on ebay that I think is going to look so lovely, and we’d previously agreed we wanted the colour scheme to be green, which is very fitting for Anne!

Elizabeth:

For Elizabeth I’ve tried to keep the same look, but I’ve suggested a more exaggerated skirt shape and removed the tabs. While the new bodice panel would be more like an 18th century stomacher, I couldn’t think of any other way of just adding in a panel at the front there. The ruff/collar piece would be goldy and there would be much more embellishment than is shown, but I kind of like working on embellishment without too strict a design, and my design style is very strict, so I avoid it.

I’m actually really pleased that what are essentially two very simillar dresses have captured the very different styles between Anne in the 1530s and Elizabeth from the late 1550s on (dates from the top of my head ladies and gentlemen, I do love the Tudors!)

Celeste second fitting

5 May

I had my second fitting for Celeste last week and got the photos back tonight. Firstly I gotta say that a)I’m really really proud of how this came out but b) how gorgeous does my girl look!

Anywho, again just little tweaks here and there, nothing to major really, here are the pics!

Celeste First Fitting

27 Mar

So on tuesday I had my first fitting for Celeste. I’m beginning to almost be comfortable in fittings, helped when you get a little praise (‘Oh you are SO MUCH better this year, last you were rubbish’….thanks Kat)

So yea not to many alterations really, obvious ones: shifting the shoulder, making the armhole bigger, fitting the sleeve, adjusting the collar. Already got practically everything cut and tacked in top fabric, so thats nice.
Anyway some pics…

Mother's Day 2009

13 Mar

I’m not one who believes in Mother’s Day, however, since this year both me and the bradre have moved out, I figured Madre needed some new monsters round the house
I was gonna give them features and clothes etc, but once I’d added the eyes I kinda liked them the way they were

As for everything else:

Finished all my underwear for Negotiated and drawn up my skirt patterns. Tomorrow I’m going to get all my pieces cut out and made up ready to fit on the stand on Monday. Also I have to get some more work done on my hat.

I’ve written 1060 words of my POP essay….today! Excellent times!

Moonfleet: I made a mock up of my waistcoat and it worked! Now I just need to do the same with my trousers, another plan for tomorrow

And I managed to escape from Her Mother’s Eyes! Even more excellent. I’ve also organised a Tudor project, being made for an actor/educator apparently. Has to be used for both Eliz 1 and Anne Boleyn…I’m quite excited to do that.
